No, India- Nepal relations are not similar to China-Vietnam relations.

First of all, India and Nepal have never gone to war as China-Vietnam have. This should be sufficient to answer but I will go a bit further.

Second, there are vast number of Nepalese living and earning in India and share a close people to people connect with India. I doubt that is true with China-Vietnam.

Being Pakistani, I say, yes.

Nepalis have tensions with India, due to the biggest reason: Kalapani. Nepal fears India would occupy their territory, as India has, successfully, forcing assimilation among the Gorkhas into the Indian society and now Indians dominate everything of Nepal. Nepal, is like, a little puppet of India. So even being Hindu majority, Nepalis have a lot of hostilities toward Indians.

Vietnamese have tensions with China due to its past. Most Westerners are very ignorant when they just criticize Vietnam without realizing how Chinese try to vandalize Vietnam for many years. Even belong to Sinosphere nations, China has been, cruelly, murdering many Vietnamese before. I was inspired by how Vietnamese fought China and kept up their identity. Thus, this was the reason why I started to suspect China since.
