A pay study by America's Institute for Policy Studies said on Wednesday that 25 of the 100 highest paid U.S. CEOs earned more last year than their companies paid in federal income tax, Reuters reported. The think tank said it also found many of the companies spent more on lobbying than they did on taxes. Among the companies, Boeing, which paid CEO Jim McNerney $13.8 million, sent in $13 million in federal income taxes and spent $20.8 million on lobbying and political campaigns. General Electric, where CEO Jeff Immelt earned $15.2 million in 2010, while the company got a $3.3 billion federal refund and invested $41.8 million in its own lobbying and political campaigns.

Apple has reportedly lost a possible prototype of the iPhone 5, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report. The prototype phone was lost in a bar, and, if true, it would be the second time in many years that Apple has lost an unreleased model in such a manner. Citing a source "familiar with the investigation", CNET reports that the unreleased iPhone went missing in late July at the Cava 22 "tequila lounge" in San Francisco's Mission District, sparking a scramble to recover the device. Apple has not yet acknowledged the development of the iPhone 5 but a string of reports have said it will be unveiled in September or October. In a bizarrely similar occurrence last year, last year an Apple computer engineer misplaced a prototype iPhone 4 in a German beer garden. It was found and sold to gadget blog Gizmodo for $US5000.

About how the ticket booth would know if the female guests seeking free tickets and prizes are really virgins, a tourism official said the park is going with the honor system. "We are simply trusting in their honesty," the official said.

Retired Chinese NBA star Yao Ming has asked the Basketball Hall of Fame to delay considering him for induction into the sporting shrine as a contributor, saying it is inappropriate at this time, AFP reported. Yao was nominated to the Hall of Fame this year as a contributor by a Chinese reporter. Consideration for inclusion as a player requires a minimum wait of five years but he was eligible immediately as a contributor, and a worthy candidate given his barrier-smashing success as the first Asian player to achieve NBA stardom. NBA commissioner David Stern has called Yao "a transformational player and a testament to the globalization of our game" and he became the face of the NBA in China.
